Marble Chips vs Pebbles

The angular-versus-rounded choice affects more than looks — it changes how a surface behaves underfoot.
Shape changes behaviour
Angular chips interlock, so a chip path holds its shape under foot traffic. Rounded pebbles roll against each other and shift, which is why pebble paths feel loose and tend to migrate.
Where pebbles work better
Pebbles suit water features, decorative bowls, planters and areas people will not walk on. Their smooth surface looks better wet and feels better in the hand.
Where chips work better
Chips are the right choice for paths, driveways, terrazzo, exposed aggregate and any surface that must stay stable. They also bond into cement and resin matrices far better than rounded stone.
Using both
Many gardens use both: chips for the walked surface and pebbles as a decorative band or around a water feature. Keeping them physically separated with edging stops them mixing.
