Marble Chips vs Gravel

Both are loose stone. They behave and look quite differently — here is the practical comparison.
Appearance
Marble chips are angular, bright and available in defined colours. Gravel is usually rounded, mixed in tone and reads as a natural river or quarry material. Where a scheme needs a deliberate, designed surface, chips give more control.
Cost and availability
Gravel is generally cheaper and more locally available. Marble chips cost more because the stone is crushed, screened and often washed and graded to a specification. For large utilitarian areas gravel usually wins on cost; for visible decorative areas chips usually win on appearance.
Maintenance
Both need a membrane below and an occasional rake. Light marble chips show soil more than mid-toned gravel, so in dusty or high-traffic settings a warm-toned chip or gravel needs less attention.
Which to choose
Use marble chips where the surface is seen and specified — entrances, courtyards, feature beds, terrazzo. Use gravel for back-of-house paths, drainage and large low-visibility areas.
