Marble Chips for Pathways

Last reviewed 2026-03-22 · MarbleChips.in product team

A chip path is quick to build and easy to get wrong. Grade and edging make the difference.

Choose an interlocking grade

10-20 mm is the standard path grade because its mixed sizes lock together. Uniform fine chips roll underfoot and scatter into surrounding beds and lawns.

Prepare the base

Excavate, compact, and lay a permeable membrane. In monsoon conditions this stops mud pumping up through the chips, which is the most common cause of a path looking ruined after one season.

Edge both sides

Edging holds the path's line and keeps chips out of the lawn. Metal, timber, brick or concrete edging all work; the important thing is that it exists.

Accessibility

Loose chip surfaces are difficult for wheelchairs and prams. Where accessible routes are needed, use a bound surface or paving and keep chips as the decorative margin.
